As a person particularly in touch with my Welsh heritage, I am just as excited as the next Welsh individual for having made it to World Cup. Despite my lack of interest in football, I have found myself dedicated to watching the matches and finding myself turning up the radio and belting out \u2018Yma o hyd\u2019 to BBC Wales for the seventh time in a day and leaving it comfortably on repeat in my brain for the rest of the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

Procrastination scrolling from my assignment, I came across a video of Dafydd Iwan telling facts about his patriotic song, one of which was that the original manuscript of the song lies in the Aberystwyth National Library.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

As a student of Aberystwyth for over a year now studying a degree in English literature, and who has still not attended the biggest library in Wales, this was the perfect excuse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Equipped with my Cymru bucket hat that I acquired for \u00a37.99 from the current CK\u2019s promotional offers, I headed for the library on a quest for the manuscript of the recently topical song.<\/p><\/span>

<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

Entering the Library, I found the song particularly easy to find. The entrance leads into the shop and past the \u2018Yma o Hyd\u2019 themed gifts into an open hall where there is a world cup exhibition where the original song lyrics are on a piece of paper behind glass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

It was surreal to see the lyrics, jotted on a piece of paper like any ordinary unexceptional notes, because it is an exceptional song. It served as a reminder that success can come from any form. The song translating to \u2018we are still here\u2019 is a protest song, a reminder that Wales is still here, and it has plenty to offer, from its poets and writers, artists, music, sporting achievements and beauty spots. The song is surrounded in the room, by various football memorabilia and videos from old world cups. <\/span>

<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table>Notably, there is also a wall of messages of good luck in a mixture of Welsh and English, wishing the boys good luck in the world cup. It is evident that the world cup has brought the Welsh people together, in a way like never before, with the country routing for the boys.<\/span><\/figure>\n

As I continue to write this now, both Wales and England are out of the world cup running\u2019s, but it is still evident that it meant a lot to its fans. Seeing the Welsh team and fans singing Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau (The Welsh National anthem) in Qatar, singing far more passionately than any other sporting team sing theirs is a proud moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

The unique asset the Welsh fans have evidenced throughout this tournament is that they are happy, supportive fans, they boys have been backed by the most remote people in Wales and also those who don\u2019t like football, like me. The Welsh fans are just happy to be there. Although we may have not won, we still showed the world that Wales is still here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

Yn mynd I mewn I\u2019r lyfrgell, roedd hi\u2019n arbennig o hawdd dod\no hyd I\u2019r can. Mae\u2019r mynedfa yn arwain I mewn I siop a hebio\u2019r anrhegion thema\n\u2018Yma o Hyd\u2019 I mewn I neuadd lle mae arddangosfa Cwpan y Byd lle mae\u2019r geiriau\ngwreiddiol I\u2019r can ar ddarn o bapur tu-ol gwydr.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

Roedd e\u2019n swreal I weld y geiriau wedi ei nodi ar darn o\nbapur fel unrhyw nodiadau arferol aneithriadol, achos can eithriadol yw hi.\nFe\u2019I gwasaneithir fel atgof fod gall llwyddiant dod o unrhyw ffurf. Mae\u2019r geiriau sy\u2019n dweud \u2018Ry\u2019n ni yma o hyd\u2019 yn brotest,\natgofiad fod Cymru dal yma, ac yn cael digon I gynnig, o\u2019u beirdd ac\nysgrifenwyr, artistiaid, cerddoniaeth, cyflawniadau chwaraeon a mannau\nprydferth.Mae\u2019r can wedi ei amgylchynu yn yr ystafell, efo memrobilia\npel-droed amrywiol a fideos o gwpanau\u2019r Byd hen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
