To Aberystwyth

Written by Narayan Jesse Jhutti, Translated by Iwan Thomas

To where shall we go? To Aberystwyth we shall;
The hills she bears are uncompromisable,
The cold misty air is almost chastisable.
Waves thrash lovingly upon her open shores:
The public throws plastic, only to give her more chores.

A stampede of drunkards, in search of more liquor.
Time goes by so slowly, but Pier won't make it quicker.
Where are the glory days, where is my heart?

To Aberystwyth we go, from her I shall never part.

Cymraeg

I ba le awn ni? I Aberystwyth yr awn;

Mae ei bryniau yn ddigyfaddawd ganddi,

Mae'r aer oer niwlog bron â chosbi.

Mae tonnau'n lapio'n gariadus ar ei glannau agored:

Mae'r cyhoedd yn taflu plastig i ffwrdd, dim ond i roi mwy o dasgau iddi.

Meddwon ar garlam, i chwilio am fwy o wirod.

Mae amser mor araf ei hynt, ond ni wnaiff Pier hi’n gynt.

Pa le mae'r dyddiau ysblenydd, Pa le mae fy nghalon?

I Aberystwyth awn, Oddi wrthi na adawaf am byth.
